Diabetes Management
Manage your diabetes, live a healthier life
Nearly 50,000 people in the East Los Angeles area have diabetes. That's not surprising, since one in seven Latinos and one in four Mexican-Americans over the age of 45 are living with diabetes. That’s why Adventist Health White Memorial offers a comprehensive diabetes management program, including one-on-one training and educational resources to help you live better with diabetes and prevent the serious health consequences that diabetes can cause.
Comprehensive education and support
As one of the most comprehensive diabetes programs in California, we support patients with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes as well as prediabetes. As a participant in the program, you will have the opportunity to meet individually with our bilingual certified diabetes educators. Our educators will work closely with you and your physician to develop a personalized support plan. From in-person training to interactive classes, you will have access to a full range of resources to help you better manage your diabetes for a healthier, easier life.
Medical nutrition therapy
Learning more about nutrition and a balanced diet can help with diabetes, prediabetes, and obesity. Our nutritional therapists will show you which foods can help with controlling blood sugar levels and which to avoid. We will also help you with a diet plan tailored to your condition, weight, and other factors.
Insulin pump training
Wearable insulin pumps that automatically deliver insulin to your body have revolutionized glucose management, improving both convenience, and outcomes. Our certified trainers will show you how to properly use this advanced technology.
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) education
Monitoring your glucose is critical to managing your diabetes and preventing harmful consequences. Today’s CGM devices provide real-time tracking of glucose levels on a continual basis throughout the day, transmitting information from a sensor on your body to a receiver typically on an app or hand-held device. We’ll walk you through the different types of CGMs and show you how to properly use yours, so you can remain safe and get the best results.
Community education
We offer a variety of classes designed to help you take control of your diabetes. Classes are taught by certified diabetes educators who cover different topics to help you achieve your goal of living better and easier with diabetes. Our classes include:
