Gynecology services
We need our bodies to be functioning at their best to keep with the busy demands of life. Our doctors and certified nurse-midwives understands the unique demands on women — and their bodies. Our providers combine extensive specialized training with a deep understanding of and compassion for women’s individual needs.
Well-woman visits
Our OB/GYNs and midwives see women from adolescence through all ages for gynecological care. Annual visits may include:
- Pelvic exam
- Cervical screening (Pap smear)
- Vaccines as needed
- Breast exam
- Lab and/or mammography referrals
General gynecology
In addition to typical annual visits and screening, you may want to get your provider's help with other concerns. Bring your questions to your annual exam or schedule an appointment to go over any symptoms or worries you have. Our providers can help with:
- Adolescent gynecological care and vaccination
- Evaluation and treatment associated with abnormal pap tests
- Menopause management and care
- Osteoporosis screening (bone density scanning)
- STD screening and treatment
- Screening for hereditary cancer risk
- Urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnosis and treatment
- Treatment of gynecological conditions, including endometriosis, heavy or painful periods, ovarian cysts, vaginitis, pelvic pain — including surgery, when appropriate
- Treatment of incontinence

Pregnancy care
Being pregnant and giving birth is a special time for you and your family. It’s important for you to have a health care partner who understands that pregnancy isn’t a problem. It’s a natural human experience, full of emotion and many physical changes.
Our doctors and certified nurse-midwives value the chance to partner with you as grow and welcome your little one. They combine extensive specialized training with a deep understanding of and compassion for women’s individual needs.
Prenatal care
Whether you’re pregnant with your first or your fourteenth, this is a special time for you and your family. Our providers believe in women — in your strength and your knowledge of yourself. They also offer expertise to help you have a healthy, happy pregnancy.
Our prenatal program supports you and your baby as you grow together toward birth. Our team wants to understand what you care about most during your pregnancy and what you want during your birth experience.
Our providers offer:
- Ongoing pregnancy care.
- Ultrasounds and prenatal screenings.
- Gestational diabetes management.
- Pain and medication management during pregnancy.
- Maternal fetal medicine consultations and imaging for high-risk or complicated pregnancies.
- Treatment for postpartum depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns.
Your birth experience
Whether you’re a first-time mom or you’ve been down this path before, you can trust us to work with you to have a birth experience as close to your plans and desires as possible, all while keeping you and your baby safe. The Family Birth Place welcomes you with a homelike atmosphere. We additionally offer integrated midwifery suites for people aiming for an unmedicated birth with one of our midwives.
Whatever your birth plan and needs, our team partners with your provider to provide you the birth experience you value most.
Maternal-fetal medicine
Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) physicians from OHSU offer consultations and reading advanced ultrasounds for patients with high-risk pregnancies in Portland’s eastside communities on the Adventist Health Portland campus.
Consultation with these OHSU specialists are valuable for women who have medical illnesses or increased risk for genetic complications, such as a history of genetic disease or a maternal age above 35.
Specialized fetal imaging at Adventist Health Portland now includes:
- First trimester dating and nuchal translucency measurement.
- Second trimester anatomy survey.
- Third trimester growth scans, Doppler and biophysical profile.
- Fetal tissue examination (typically placental tissue and/or amniotic fluid).
If you and your baby need additional care, we will work with you and your provider to make sure you get the follow-up care you need and can plan your delivery at the hospital that best fits your needs. This includes hassle-free access to OHSU Doernbecher’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) if needed.
You'll receive access to top experts in maternal/fetal and newborn medicine, the latest tests, advanced minimally invasive procedures and support throughout your pregnancy.

Postpartum care
Birth is the start of a new journey for you, your baby and your body. Our care doesn’t end just because your pregnancy does. Here are ways we can help you have a successful entry into this phase of motherhood:
- Routine follow-up visits to check for healing and to follow up with any pregnancy conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes
- Lactation support
- Mental health support, including screening for post-partum depression and anxiety
- Family planning and birth control
- Referrals to specialty rehab, including pelvic floor therapy
