The Family Birth Place is where your family story begins

You'll always remember the sound of that first cry, the first time you felt the tiny hand grasp your finger, watched the sleepy eyes open, and gaze into yours. Your baby’s birth is the beginning of your family’s newest story. That’s why the birthing center at Adventist Health Portland is called the Family Birth Place. We are honored to be with you as your family begins this new chapter.

Expert hands for safe pregnancies and deliveries

Whether you're expecting your first baby or have been through childbirth before, you want to know you're in expert hands. You’ll appreciate our many forms of expertise:

  • Anesthesia available 24/7 by qualified anesthesiologists and/or certified nurse anesthetists.
  • Our Level I nursery with advanced stabilization services for babies in need of extra medical care, plus teleNICU service provided by Doernbecher Children’s Hospital doctors.
  • Maternal-fetal medicine physicians from OHSU offer consultations and evaluation of advanced ultrasounds for patients with high-risk pregnancies.
  • Lactation consultants and nurses who are trained in lactation will help you and your baby become a successful duo. If further help is needed after discharge, we have a certified lactation specialist consultant available for follow-up appointments.
  • Classes to help you understand birth, newborn care, and breastfeeding.

Registration and financial planning

Even though nine months sounds like a long time, the last few months have a way of going by rather quickly as you prepare for your new arrival. With that in mind, we encourage you to visit our registration office at the hospital to get your paperwork done at least 8 weeks in advance.

Be sure to bring your photo ID, your OB/GYNs name and contact information, and your insurance card.  Our patient business office is happy to go over your health insurance benefits so you go into your delivery confident you know what to expect.
