Seeing Recovery in Action

Adventist Health Portland Volunteer Committee members and members of the Community Impact Committee visited Blanchet Farm to learn firsthand how the organization supports men affected by substance use disorder and houselessness.

A place to rebuild and recover

Located in rural Yamhill County, Blanchet Farm provides a safe, sober and supportive setting where residents can focus on rebuilding their lives. The free residential program combines peer support and case management with meaningful, hands-on work. Residents help care for animals, tend gardens, prepare meals and maintain the farm—building responsibility, confidence and practical job skills along the way.

Recovery through structure and community

During the visit, the group learned how the farm’s peaceful setting, daily structure and strong sense of community offer residents the time and space needed to work toward long-term recovery. The program also helps residents connect with health care, employment, housing and other services as they prepare for greater independence.

Understanding the broader health impact

The visit gave participants a deeper understanding of the connection between substance use disorder, housing instability and overall health. It also highlighted how trusted community partners address needs that extend beyond the walls of a hospital.

Blanchet Farm’s work closely aligns with Adventist Health Portland’s community health priorities, particularly housing and mental and behavioral health. By learning directly from organizations doing this work, our team and Community Impact Committee can make more informed decisions about how we partner, invest and serve.
