Evaluation and wound assessment

Upon arrival, every patient is given our thorough attention. Your medical history and the causes of your wound may be discussed, and your entire wound site will be carefully examined to confirm diagnosis and direct the proper treatment.

Treatment plans

Our personalized treatment plans are tailored to your unique wound needs and other medical factors. Your plan is created by our interdisciplinary team of wound care experts, including nurses, registered dietitians, nurse practitioners and physicians specializing in infectious diseases, vascular surgery, podiatry, internal medicine, and more.

Education

During and following treatment, patients receive education and care training. This includes information on caring for wounds at home, nutrition tips and guidelines for patients to promote effective healing.

On-going treatment for non-healing wounds

Those suffering from diabetes, poor circulation or other health conditions are often at a higher risk for nonhealing wounds. For these patients, we provide on-going treatment and support, with scheduled visits based on the severity of your condition.

Treatment Types

Depending on the type and severity of your wound, your treatment may include:

  • Debridement: Using the latest techniques and training, our wound care staff gently remove dead tissue from the wound, making room for new healthy tissue.
  • Pressure wound relief: Our staff relieves pain from existing wounds and prevents new pressure wounds by using or recommending better support surfaces like seat cushions, footwear, and special beds or mattresses.
  • Infection control: Using biopsies or blood cultures, our wound care staff will identify any causes of infection and treat it with the recommended antibiotics.
  • Compression therapy: This therapy uses elastic stockings or bandages to increase blood flow, prevent blood pooling, and decrease swelling.
  • Vacuum-assisted wound closure: With this therapy, we apply negative pressure or suction to remove blood and other fluids from the wound site, which enables better healing.

It is profoundly personal and can be isolating, disfiguring, and inconvenient. It is my honor to help make it tolerable and sometimes better.”
