When to see a pulmonologist

A temporary cough or difficulty breathing due to a cold, flu, or allergies doesn’t usually require the services of a pulmonologist. However, the symptoms below could be related to a more severe lung condition and may warrant a consultation. If you experience any of these symptoms, please consult with your primary care provider to get a referral for our care.

  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing during exercise or activities
  • Recurring/chronic coughing or other cold symptoms
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Frequent fatigue
  • Coughing up blood or frequent blood in your saliva
  • Unintentional weight loss

In addition, anyone who is or has been a smoker should have their respiratory health examined. If you or a loved one is interested in stopping smoking, please consider our Freedom from Smoking Series.

Advanced testing, accurate diagnoses

Once you and your primary care provider have determined you should seek our care, the next step is getting to the bottom of your symptoms. Lung and respiratory diseases can be difficult to diagnose, but fortunately, our pulmonologists have extensive training and experience in using the latest diagnostic tests and procedures to accurately diagnose your condition.

Our diagnostic tests and procedures include:

  • Biopsies
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Chest X-rays
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Endobronchial ultrasound
  • Pulmonary function testing (PFT)

Thoughtful expertise, personalized treatment

Respiratory conditions can range from mild to life-threatening. Based on your specific diagnosis, health condition and other factors, your pulmonologist will create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Technology Spotlight

Advanced Lung Cancer Screening

Adventist Health Glendale has long been at the forefront of offering programs and cutting-edge technology for early detection of a wide range of conditions. The adoption of DynaLync and DynaCAD Lung provides critical tools to aid with the identification, tracking, and management of relevant information to help physicians reach a quick and definitive diagnosis. We utilize low dose CT (LDCT) lung screening, which is quick and easy and results in a minimal amount of radiation exposure. We are determined to raise awareness and improve access to this testing for all people at high risk. Therefore, we are currently offering LDCT lung screening to individuals who meet established high-risk criteria.
