More expert care for your new beginnings

Our maternity care includes several ancillary and critical care services to meet different needs and ensure the health of all mothers and babies.

High-risk pregnancy care

Some pregnancies present health risks to the mother and/or child. These risks can be related to pre-existing health conditions or pregnancy-related conditions. Rest assured Adventist Health Glendale has the experience and specialized care to support women with complicated pregnancies. This includes perinatal outpatient and inpatient care for health monitoring and treating different conditions.

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

Our 14-bed Level III-B NICU is the most equipped NICU in Glendale for babies with special medical needs. Our experienced and compassionate physicians, nurses, and therapists are available around the clock to provide these precious babies and their families with specialized care and support.

Our nurses and other NICU staff can teach parents and caregivers how to touch, hold, and bond with their infants, as well as provide more information about their baby's condition. Our lactation educators are also available to help mothers with breastfeeding their child.

Lactation support

All our Birth Center nurses are trained in lactation support for new mothers who choose to breastfeed. Following your delivery, an internationally board-certified lactation consultant will visit you to answer questions, and provide guidance.

Whatever your plan is, our staff is here to support your post-partum direction for feeding your baby.

Preparing for your delivery

Prior to your delivery, there are several steps you should take:

Find a pediatrician

Before you deliver your baby, you should choose a pediatrician (a doctor who will care for your baby after birth). This doctor will examine your baby shortly after birth. Your obstetrical doctor (OB/GYN) may advise you regarding a pediatrician or may provide you with a list of pediatricians who are on staff at Adventist Health Glendale. To select a pediatrician, visit our directory.

Complete a pre-admission form

Pre-registration is strongly recommended and can be completed midway through your pregnancy. You can pre-register by obtaining a pre-registration form from your doctor, during a maternity tour, through the medical center admitting office located on the main floor of the east tower. Please bring a photo ID and insurance cards with you when you arrive for pre-registration and when you arrive to deliver your baby.

Prenatal testing, labor induction, and pregnancy problems

Your doctor may need to induce your labor or instruct you to have some prenatal tests. Some of those tests, such as the non-stress test (NST), will be done in or near our Maternity and Outpatient Surgery Center. Our center also offers perinatology services for patients who experience medical complications during pregnancy. Your doctor will tell you where to go and how to make arrangements for any testing you may need.

Taking your baby home

When you and your baby are ready to be discharged from our center, you will need to provide clothing for the baby. In addition, you must make sure that there is an infant car seat installed in the car the baby will go home in. By law, you must have a car seat that is manufactured specifically for newborns.
