Clearlake Approves Hope Center Growth for Support Services
On April 21, 2026, the Clearlake Planning Commission unanimously approved a proposal to more than double the size of the Adventist Health Hope Center, a vital community resource providing stable housing and supportive services for people experiencing homelessness and individuals in need of medical care.
The decision also included a public hearing to consider a conditional use permit and categorical environmental exemption for the expansion project. The Hope Center is located at 3400 Emerson St. in Clearlake, California.
Expanding access to housing and medical support services
Since opening in 2020, the Hope Center has operated out of a renovated 6,100-square-foot office building. Originally designed as a 20-bed medical support residential care facility, it provides 24/7 care for residents who need both housing stability and health-related support services.
The approved expansion plan will add approximately 7,000 square feet to the existing one-story structure, significantly increasing the center’s capacity and services.
Once completed, the expanded 13,100-square-foot facility will be able to accommodate an additional 30 on-site residents across 15 dual-occupancy bedrooms. The project also includes new and improved spaces designed to enhance care delivery and community support, including:
- 10 administrative offices
- A community room
- A dining area
- A commercial kitchen with cold storage
- Additional restrooms
- Meeting rooms
- A reception and registration lobby
Strengthening support for vulnerable community members
The Hope Center currently serves an average of 60 residents per year, with typical lengths of stay ranging from three to six months. Since opening, the program has helped stabilize lives and transitions, permanently housing 171 individuals within the community.
The approved expansion represents a continued commitment to addressing homelessness through integrated medical care, housing stability, and supportive services in Lake County.
Support the expansion
As the Hope Center grows, community support helps ensure that more individuals have access to safe housing, medical care, and the resources needed to rebuild their lives.
