Specialized emergency services
There are many time-sensitive conditions or injuries that require specialized services and expertise. Fortunately, Adventist Health Castle is fully equipped to treat them all.
Trauma center
At Adventist Health Castle, we have a specialized unit and team in place to care for trauma victims. In fact, we have been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) on trauma and the Hawaii State Department of Health. The achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients and delivering 24/7 comprehensive emergency services. The elevated designation affirms Adventist Health Castle’s services meet national standards for exceptional trauma resources.
Our trauma care begins by making sure patients receive attention within those first 60 to 90 minutes that are so critical to preventing death and preserving brain function, heart muscle and, ultimately, the patient’s quality of life after recovery.
Our care continues with the deployment of a team specially skilled in treating trauma. Our team includes board-certified specialists in emergency medicine, anesthesiology, trauma surgery, orthopedics, cardiology and neurosurgery, nursing, radiology, intensive care and physical rehabilitation, all working together using proven treatment protocols that comply with the standards of the American College of Surgeons, the national organization that oversees the verification of trauma centers across the U.S.
Geriatric emergency department
Meeting the needs of our senior community members is a top priority. That’s why we’re proud to have received a Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians. With our accredited geriatric emergency department, seniors who visit our emergency department can be assured that our hospital has the necessary expertise, equipment and staff in place to provide excellent care with a focus on the common conditions and needs of elderly patients.
The GEDA accreditation means that our team works together to ensure:
- We provide standardized approaches to care that address common geriatric issues, including multiple chronic conditions.
- We provide optimal transitions of care from the emergency department to other settings (inpatient units, home, rehabilitation centers, etc.).
- We work together to achieve geriatric-focused quality improvements.
Thanks to our geriatric emergency department, you can rest a little easier knowing that quality emergency care is just around the corner, close to your home and loved ones.
