The first step in supporting you is preventing cancer or detecting it early enough for successful treatment. That’s why our primary care providers and specialists offer exams and screenings for detecting all types of cancers as well as genetic tests to determine if you have a greater risk of developing cancer based on your genes and family history. They also educate you on dietary or lifestyle choices that can lower your risk of cancer.

To enable early detection and the most accurate diagnoses, we’ve invested in the latest imaging technology at our Adventist Health Castle imaging services located in Kailua. For breast care, we are proud to offer 3D mammography, which provides more detailed and precise imaging of breast tissue. We also offer colonoscopies without the need for a prior referral. This can accelerate the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.

Our expert oncologists are the leading figures on our cancer team, responsible for ensuring accurate diagnoses, developing personalized treatment plans, managing your care team and making sure you are fully informed and well cared for every step of the way.

Depending on your diagnosis, you may have a choice of treatments or require a combination. Your oncologist will walk you through your options, discuss the side effects and help you determine the best course of action depending on various factors. Should you require radiation therapy, our radiation oncologists will develop a personalized plan including the right dosage and number of treatments for optimal outcomes and for minimizing side effects.

In the event that surgery is required, our surgical oncologists will also develop a personalized plan that may include the latest technology for minimally invasive procedures, such as robotic, laparoscopic or laser surgeries.

Should you require chemotherapy, immunology or other infusion therapies, you can expect compassionate care from experienced nurses in our comfortable, convenient Infusion Center.

Hematology for blood cancers or hormone therapy for prostate or breast cancer are also offered with the same level of personalized care.

We understand the toll cancer can have on your body, mind and spirit. From the treatment side-effects to the feelings of vulnerability, cancer poses challenges for even the strongest patients. As part of our whole person approach to care, we offer a range of support services to help you on your journey.

For relieving and managing side effects, we provide:

• Physical therapy to relieve conditions like lymphedema, improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore overall strength.
• Hydration therapy and other infusions for managing dehydration, flushing toxins and supporting organ function.
• Nutrition counseling for addressing weight loss, weight gain, nausea, digestive disorders and energy levels.
• Treatments or medications for side-effects such as incontinence, erectile disfunction, difficulty swallowing and more.

For supporting you emotionally, our whole team is in your corner with compassionate support, but we also offer specific services and resources that can help, including:

• Chaplain visits for consoling or praying with you and your loved ones.
• Social workers and psychologists to help you cope with your emotional struggles.
• Support groups and classes hosted by care providers where you can interact with and learn from other cancer patients.

With Adventist Health Castle, your diagnosis and treatment plan can be reviewed by a team of leading cancer experts from around the state. The team meets via videoconference to discuss your case with your oncologist and agree on the best treatment options. You can ask your doctor to present your case to the board, or your doctor may choose to bring up your case during a scheduled call. There's no charge for this service.

A clinical trial is a research study that tests new innovative cancer treatments on patients who qualify. Adventist Health Castle works with the University of Hawaii Cancer Center in bringing cancer clinical trials to our facility, and keeps you informed about any trials that might benefit you. Your oncologist will determine if you qualify for a particular trial.
