Adventist Health Tillamook was built in 1950 and has continuously evolved in size, scope, and technology to provide the highest standards of care to our community. We are proud of our history, achievements, and on-going mission of living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope.
Adventist Health Tillamook through the years
Learn how we’ve gone from a modest hospital serving a few thousand residents to a state-of-the-art hospital, and network of clinics in Tillamook and neighboring rural counties.
Origins and becoming Adventist Health
Adventist Health Tillamook was built on its current site in 1950, at a cost of $1,175,000. In 1973, Tillamook County signed a long-term management lease agreement with Northwest Medical Foundation of Tillamook, a non-profit healthcare corporation affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and owned by Adventist Health.
In 1975, county citizens approved a bond issue, which was combined with federal funds to achieve a $2.4 million hospital improvement project.
In January 1980 Northwest Medical Foundation merged with Adventist Health. The operation of the facility is a partnership between Adventist Health and Tillamook County, with a long-term lease currently in effect through 2045.
Expansion to meet the needs of our community
By the 1990's, our community’s healthcare needs, and our hospital services had outgrown the facility’s available space. Significant remodeling was needed to deliver more patient care and to accommodate the modern technologies of the time. In September 1996, voters of Tillamook County overwhelmingly approved a $10 million bond levy to upgrade and renovate the facility.
This project, completed in the fall of 2000, added 25,000 square feet to the existing building, and renovated 38,000 square feet. Improvements were made in a number of departments including emergency, surgery, recovery, outpatient services, laboratory, and the Family Birth Place. Other areas of improvement included upgrading or expanding plumbing and electrical, air conditioning, fire alarm systems, emergency generator, and upgrading the building to meet current earthquake standards.
Beyond our hospital, Adventist Health Tillamook extended its care through a network of rural health clinics in Manzanita, Tillamook, Pacific City, Vernonia, and Estacada. Our flagship, the Medical Office – Plaza, located just east of the hospital in Tillamook, began serving patients in May 2013. These facilities are dedicated to fulfilling the unique health needs of each community they serve. Offering a comprehensive array of services and specialty care, they also pioneer community-based nursing initiatives, bringing personalized care directly into patient homes. This approach underscores our commitment to nurturing health, wholeness and hope within the communities we are privileged to serve.
