A legacy of compassion and care

A community coming together for all
Discover the history of our hospital — from our humble beginnings to the advancements we've made throughout our 70+ years of serving the community.
Bringing care closer to home
Our roots date back to 1939 in Montebello when a group of 18 local physicians came together with a shared dream — to create better access to care for their patients. They purchased an 18-bed maternity cottage and expanded it to offer a broader range of care. By 1942, the healthcare needs of the community had outgrown the cottage, so the group purchased and converted a local rest home into a private hospital. On May 20, 1949, the hospital became the Beverly Community Hospital Association, a not-for-profit built on compassion and service.
Expanding to meet our growing community
Over the decades, we’ve grown alongside our rapidly expanding community. From building new hospital wings in 1957, welcoming our first board-certified specialist in 1960, and expanding upwards with the construction of the hospital’s patient tower in 1973, every step of our expansion has been about meeting the needs of those who walk through our doors.
In recent decades, we’ve introduced advanced services like gastrointestinal labs, wound care and hyperbaric medicine, along with adding more hospital beds to our Emergency Care Center.
Joining Adventist Health
On September 7, 2023, we welcomed an exciting new chapter by joining the Adventist Health family and becoming Adventist Health White Memorial Montebello. This transition provided us with the resources and support of a large healthcare organization to continue providing quality compassionate care to our community.
A bright future ahead
The future of healthcare in Montebello is full of promise. In 2024, we introduced robotic surgery with the state-of-the-art da Vinci Xi surgical system and expanded vital services like outpatient imaging, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and gastrointestinal lab services. We also received accreditation by the Joint Commission, a reflection of our ongoing dedication to excellence.
With each day, we continue to build on our promise by looking out for new opportunities to enhance our care and expand our access. From our humble beginnings to where we stand today, one thing has never changed: our dedication to providing the highest standards of care right here in Montebello.
