  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Coughing up blood or frequent blood in your saliva
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Frequent fatigue
  • Recurring/chronic coughing or other cold symptoms
  • Unintentional weight loss

Complete screening and testing services

At the Lung Care Center at Adventist Health Hanford, we offer a full range of diagnostic tests to identify the causes of symptoms or to check the overall health of your respiratory system. These include:

Exercise testing

This simple six-minute walk test (6MWT), performed by a respiratory therapist, provides information about the lung capacity of patients with chronic respiratory illnesses.

Pulmonary function testing

This is done to measure how well you move air in and out of your lungs and how oxygen moves from your lungs into your blood. These tests include spirometry, lung volume testing, and diffusion capacity.

Sleep disorder testing

We offer both in-laboratory and home sleep apnea testing to get to the bottom of sleep issues, including difficulty falling or staying asleep, chronic snoring, or daytime fatigue. Depending on your diagnosis, treatment may include lifestyle or dietary changes, medications, PAP therapy, oral appliances, or surgical procedures.

Arterial blood gas testing

This is a blood test that measures the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in your blood stream. It is useful in detecting such conditions as pneumonia and COPD, as well as monitoring various treatment therapies.

Lung cancer screening for early detection

In addition, we offer lung cancer screenings at our AIC Cancer Center in Bakersfield. Smokers, ex-smokers or people experiencing a chronic cough may be advised by their primary care provider to have a lung cancer screening. This is typically done through a chest x-ray or an endobronchial ultrasound.

Certain baseline testing is also available at physician offices throughout Central California.

Personalized treatment plans

Our certified pulmonologists and respiratory therapists specialize in administering a range of treatments. Based upon our diagnostic findings and knowledge of your lifestyle, your doctor will recommend a treatment plan that may include medications, medical devices, physical therapy, lifestyle and/or diet changes, and in some cases, surgery.
