Screenings and diagnostic services

Accurate and early detection of cancer is key to receiving the most effective treatment for the best outcomes. That’s why Adventist Health offers the most advanced technologies and testing services for this critical first step in looking out for your health.

Imaging services

Advanced imaging technologies give our physicians more detailed views of internal organs and tissues to help detect cancer earlier, determine the extent of your cancer, or monitor the progress of your treatment. At all of our imaging centers, you can count this high level of diagnostic capability as well as experienced radiologists who interpret your images and consult with your physician. Our imaging tests include 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, CT scans, MRI, and our PET/CT hybrid scanner.

Genetic testing

To assess your risk of cancer, our oncology team uses genetic testing to detect inherited gene mutations that can indicate a higher risk. Genetic testing is recommended for patients who have a family history of cancer.

Cancer staging

As part of your diagnosis, we use advanced tools and pathology studies to accurately determine the extent of your cancer and what “stage” it is in. This information helps guide our treatment plans.

Tumor boards

To assist us in our evaluation and treatment planning, we have access to leading cancer specialists from around California, who review your case and weigh in on treatment recommendations.

Personalized treatment plans

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, our oncologists will combine all the details of your results and cancer staging with knowledge of your health history, age, and other factors to recommend a personalized treatment plan. Your plan has two objectives: to help you survive cancer while minimizing the side effects of your treatment as much as possible. Your treatment plan will involve one or a combination of the following:

Radiation oncology

Radiation is a powerful tool for fighting many types of cancer. Our team of experts delivers the right dose in the right place at the right time, based on your personal care plan.

Chemotherapy and infusions

Our infusion center delivers powerful, cancer-fighting IV medications as well as non-chemotherapy medications to you in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Interventional radiology

Your doctor may use high-tech X-ray imaging and a minimally invasive procedure to guide the delivery of cancer therapies that destroy tumors. This can be an effective alternative to surgery.

Surgical oncology

Our surgeons are skilled at utilizing the latest technologies and procedures — including minimally invasive robotic-assisted procedures — to remove malignant tumors and tissues.

Clinical trials

The AIS Cancer Center is part of several clinical trial networks and keeps you informed about any clinical trials that might benefit you during your cancer treatment.

Support and resources

Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or are undergoing treatment, cancer can take a toll on your physical, mental, and emotional health. Symptoms and side effects can be hard to deal with, no matter how strong you are. That’s why we offer several ways to help you manage the challenges and get the support you deserve. This includes:

Nurse navigator

Dealing with cancer treatment is often complicated. Our nurse navigator can help you navigate the complexities of your journey, from setting up appointments and dealing with insurance to understanding your treatment and guiding you to helpful resources.

Cancer support groups

Our support groups offer a safe space for you to gain insights and empathy from others who are dealing with cancer. These groups are offered in both English and Spanish.

Nutritional counseling

Cancer and cancer treatment can take a toll on your energy level and overall well-being, so proper nutrition is important. Our nutritionists work with you to plan meals that will fuel your body, help with side effects, and give you the physical and emotional spirit to persevere.

Social services support

Social Services provides critical support to patients during active treatment, addressing financial, emotional, and practical needs. Their guidance helps remove barriers so patients can focus on their care.

Spiritual support

Prayer and spiritual guidance are available for you and your family, no matter what your personal faith, religion, or beliefs.
