Comprehensive breast imaging and diagnostics

Early detection of breast cancer enables easier treatment for the best outcomes with minimal side effects. That’s why we encourage mammograms beginning at age 40 or possibly earlier if you have a greater risk. In addition to mammograms, we offer a range of other diagnostic tools to not only detect cancer, but to help with personalized treatment planning, monitoring your progress, and checking for recurrence. Learn more about our imaging technology and diagnostic procedures below

3D digital mammography

Tomosynthesis (or 3D Mammography) is the gold standard for detecting breast cancer because it provides highly detailed images of the breast tissue layer by layer for detecting the smallest tumors and early-stage cancers. Our state-of-the-art tomosynthesis machines combine superior imaging with efficiency to shorten the duration of your screening. Our technicians will walk you through your exam and make you as comfortable as possible.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is an imaging test that involves moving a wand along the outside of your breast to take images of the inside of your breast. This screening may be recommended for examining an area that feels abnormal during a physical checkup, if a mammogram image is unclear, or if you are younger than the recommended age for mammograms. Our 2D diagnostic ultrasound system provides extraordinary performance and visualization for a range of clinical needs.

Breast MRI

A breast MRI is another diagnostic imaging option at our disposal. With an MRI, patients lie on a bed in a tube-like structure that takes highly detailed imaging scans of their breasts. It is typically used as a supplement to a mammogram for women who are at high-risk or have dense breast tissue.

Breast biopsy

If your imaging tests detect possible cancer, a biopsy will likely be the next step. With this minimally invasive procedure, a radiologist or surgeon inserts a hollow needle into your breast to extract tissue samples from the suspicious area. The samples are then examined at a lab by a pathologist to confirm if you have cancer and to determine the type and stage of the cancer. This helps us develop the best treatment plan for you.

We use the latest biopsy technology, systems, and procedures that enable more surgical flexibility, precision, and patient comfort. This includes stereotactic breast biopsy, in which the patient lies face down on a table with her breast suspended through an opening.

Two plates hold the breast in place and provide real-time mammograms for guiding the surgeon. This set-up also provides better access to the breast tissue.
