Safe, Trusted Care Across the Central Valley
Adventist Health hospitals throughout the Central Valley receive the highest rating in safety, demonstrating a commitment to exceptional patient care.
Six eligible Adventist Health hospitals in Central California earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, which is an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety.
The hospitals awarded include:
- Adventist Health Selma
- Adventist Health Hanford
- Adventist Health Tulare
- Adventist Health Delano
- Adventist Health Bakersfield
- Adventist Health Specialty Bakersfield
The Leapfrog Group assigns grades of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” to hospitals nationwide based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. Earning an “A” grade is a reflection of how consistently a hospital prioritizes patient safety and quality at every level of care.
A network-wide commitment to safety
“Earning an ‘A’ grade for patient safety across all six of our eligible hospitals in the Central Valley is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the dedication of our providers, nurses, and entire care teams,” said Ghassan Jamaleddine, MD, Chief Medical Officer for the Adventist Health Central California Network. “It means that no matter where you live in the Central Valley, from Selma to Bakersfield, you can walk into any Adventist Health hospital knowing you’re in the safest, most capable hands. Our communities deserve nothing less.”

How Leapfrog measures Hospital Safety
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only national rating program that focuses solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries — factors that account for more than 500 patient deaths per day in the United States. The program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public, with grades updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
Adventist Health Reedley and Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley did not participate in the survey because there was not enough publicly available data to determine a safety grade this period.
