A Champion for Community Health: Raul Ayala, MD, Named “Man of the Year”
Adventist Health is proud to celebrate Raul Ayala, MD, MHCM, who was honored as “Man of the Year” by the Tulare Kings Hispanic Chamber of Commerce during its Awards Gala on February 27, 2026. This prestigious recognition highlights Dr. Ayala’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare access and advancing the well-being of communities across Tulare and Kings counties.
Leading with purpose in Central California
As ambulatory medical officer for Adventist Health in Central California, Dr. Ayala leads with both vision and compassion. As a board-certified family medicine physician, he has dedicated his career to ensuring patients receive comprehensive, high-quality care that addresses not only medical needs, but also the social and behavioral factors that influence overall health — from food insecurity to chronic disease management.
Training the next generation of physicians
Dr. Ayala’s leadership has been instrumental in transforming healthcare delivery throughout the region. He serves as the designated institutional official for Adventist Health’s Graduate Medical Education Program in which he has helped significantly expand residency and fellowship opportunities in Tulare and Hanford. These programs help address critical physician shortages in the Central Valley by training future doctors in underserved, rural communities — many of whom choose to remain and serve locally after completing their training.
Bringing healthcare beyond clinic walls
Beyond education, Dr. Ayala has championed innovative programs designed to meet patients where they are. He played a key role in launching the Adventist Health Mobile Care Clinic, which brings free healthcare services directly to underserved populations, including agricultural workers and individuals experiencing homelessness. From preventive screenings to vaccinations, the mobile care clinics deliver essential care to those who might otherwise go without.
Innovating care for underserved communities
He has also supported the development of Complex Care Clinics, which provide coordinated care for patients with serious or chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The services also include transitional care for pediatrics to adult care with complex care needs such as Cerebral Palsy, genetic and developmental complex medical disease. Complex Care Clinics help streamline transitions from hospital to home while connecting patients to the ongoing support they need to stay healthy.
A lasting commitment to patients
Despite his extensive leadership responsibilities, what sets Dr. Ayala apart is his continued dedication to direct patient care. For nearly two decades, he has remained actively involved in caring for patients, building meaningful relationships, and reinforcing his belief that healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstance.
“This recognition truly belongs to the teams and communities we serve,” Dr. Ayala shares as he reflects on his award recognition. “Every day, I am inspired by the resilience of our patients and the dedication of our caregivers. Together, we are working to remove barriers and ensure that high-quality healthcare reaches everyone, no matter where they live.”
A vision for healthier communities
Dr. Ayala’s “Man of the Year” achievement is a testament to his commitment to health equity, innovation, and service. Through his leadership, countless individuals and families across the Central Valley are experiencing improved access to care.
Adventist Health congratulates Dr. Ayala on this well-deserved win and celebrates the lasting impact he continues to make in the communities he serves.
