Heart Healthy Foods
There are many food sources that are beneficial to our hearts and overall health that you can consume in place of over-the-counter supplements. Below are three simple heart healthy foods you can incorporate into your diet.
Walnuts
Walnuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. This unsaturated fat source is great for your brain and heart health and can lead to less plaque build-up in your arteries.
Extra virgin olive oil in moderation
Olive oil is a healthy fat source that when consumed in place of saturated fats can decrease levels of LDL or the “bad” cholesterol.
High potassium fruits and vegetables
Examples of produce that are good sources of potassium include bananas, spinach and avocados. Potassium assists in proper muscle contraction – including the heart muscle.
