Only five L.A. County hospitals earned highest possible rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Adventist Health Glendale, a 515-bed tertiary care hospital in Los Angeles County, is proud to announce that it has again earned a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), marking its fifth consecutive 5-star rating. Adventist Health Glendale is the only community hospital in Los Angeles County with a current 5-star rating. This prestigious achievement underscores the hospital's commitment to patient care, quality, and safety excellence.
The 5-star rating, the highest possible from CMS, is awarded based on rigorous evaluations of various aspects of hospital performance, including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. Achieving this rating five times in a row (2020-2024) is a remarkable accomplishment, highlighting the hospital's exceptional standards and commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare.
"Earning our fifth consecutive 5-star rating is a testament to the incredible dedication and expertise of our entire team," said Alice Issai, President of Adventist Health Glendale. “A 5-Star rating is the gold standard healthcare providers to aspire to. Our sustained excellence reassures Glendale and surrounding communities that they have access to world-class healthcare services on par with Southern California's leading academic hospitals.”
Dr. Kingman Ho, Adventist Health Glendale's Chief Medical Officer, emphasized the difficulty and attention to detail required to achieve and sustain this level of performance. "Maintaining a 5-star rating requires unwavering focus on patient safety, outcomes, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement. This achievement reflects Adventist Health Glendale's commitment to patient safety and ensuring we deliver the very best care possible, every single day."
According to the CMS overall star data released on Wednesday, July 31, more than 4,600 U.S. hospitals were assessed on 46 quality measures.* Nationwide, only 381 hospitals earned five stars. In California, only 36 out of 300 hospitals (12%) earned five stars. Of the 88 hospitals evaluated in Los Angeles County, only these five hospitals earned five stars:
- Adventist Health Glendale
- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
- Keck Hospital of USC
- Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center
- Torrance Memorial Medical Center
"We strive to provide the expert-level care that our patients expect and deserve," shared Alice Issai. "We are proud to have earned this milestone rating and remain dedicated to serving as a beacon of healing and hope for our community."
*Data reporting periods range from July 2019 to April 2022, depending on the quality measure.
