Preparing for Birth 3-week series
2025 class dates:
- October 7, 14, and 21 (Tuesdays)
- November 4, 11, and 18 (Tuesdays)
- December 2, 9, and 16 (Tuesdays)
Cost is $125. Partner included, no separate registration necessary.
This class is suggested for couples in their 3rd trimester/32+ weeks pregnant. The Birth Center Tour should be scheduled separately and taken before this class.
Session 1: Understanding Labor and the Support Person's Role
- Overview of the stages of labor and what to expect
- Practice different laboring positions and relaxation techniques
- Understand the role and expectations of the support person during labor
Session 2: Managing Labor, Complications and Interventions
- Recognize when to come to the hospital and what to expect upon arrival
- Understand the importance and components of a birth plan, including hospital preparations
- Explain pain management options and expectations
- Demonstrate effective breathing techniques and explain the pushing phase of labor
- Understand common labor and birth procedures and interventions
- Recognize warning signs of pregnancy complications
- Understand cesarean births: indications, process, and recovery basics
Session 3: Postpartum Care and Newborn Care
- Understand the postpartum recovery process and self-care strategies
- Learn how to care for your newborn and what to expect during the early weeks at home
- Verbalize benefits of breastfeeding and explore various breastfeeding techniques
- Identify common stressors of new parenthood and available support resources
